‘Gladiator 2’ cast has made Russell Crowe “slightly jealous”!

Russell Crowe won an Oscar for his performance as Maximus, when thinks of his groundbreaking role in Gladiator (2000), he sees it as what made his career.

The Australian actor was “slightly jealous” upon knowing that there’s an upcoming sequel in which he’s not involved in any way.

Crowe shared his thoughts on Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington joining the cast on the sequel as he sat down for an interview with Collider for his latest horror film, The Pope’s Exorcist,

“I mean, look, the only thing that I really feel about it is slightly jealous, you know? Because I was a much younger man, obviously, and it was a huge experience in my life,” Crowe said.

“It’s something that changed my life, really. It changed the way people regarded me and what I do for a living, and, you know, I’ve been very lucky to be involved in lots of big movies, but the legs on that film are incredible.”

“it’s 2023, and we made that film in 1999. I guarantee you, somewhere around the world tonight, Gladiator is going to be showing on primetime TV. And you don’t always get that kind of longevity with every film you do, so, it obviously holds a special place in my heart,” he explained.

 

As reported, Gladiator 2 is set for a 2024 release and will take place 20 years after the original film.

The sequel will reflect the natural passage of time, in that it is based in a time two decades after the original story.
