Despacito Surpasses Seven Billion Views on YouTube, Becomes Most Watched Video
Spanish pop song Despacito is presumably one of the most famous numbers of its time. Despite its language barrier the song managed to garner fans from all over the world and now Adding another feather to its popularity hat, the Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee number has become the most-watched video on YouTube ever.
With over seven billion views on the platform, Despacito technically boasts being viewed as many times as the number of people on this planet earth. Following in closely behind is children’s favorite Baby Shark dance video by Pinkfong that holds a record of 6.8 billion views.
Released in January 2017, Despacito gained immense popularity immediately after and had a whopping three billion views within eight months. Recently it once again gained momentum as Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden played the song on his cellphone at an event on Hispanic Heritage Month in Florida.
Alongside the popularity of Despacito’s video shot in the La Perla neighborhood of San Juan, the song was also the most-streamed song online from January to July 2017.
