Egypt’s former president Mohammed Morsi dies in court

Egypt’s former president Mohammed Morsi has died in the court. 67-years old was Egypt’s first democratically-elected president.

According to the state TV, he was brought to the court hearing as he was facing espionage charges, where he fainted after a court session and subsequently passed away.

Mohamed Morsi served as the fifth President of Egypt, from 30 June 2012 to 3 July 2013, when General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi removed Morsi from office in the 2013 Egyptian coup d’état after the June 2013 Egyptian protests.

Mohamed Mursi, a top figure in the Muslim Brotherhood, had been serving a seven-year sentence for falsifying his candidacy application for the 2012 presidential race.
