Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman elected as the new Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami

Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has been elected as the new Emir (chief) of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).

The significant development was announced on Thursday following a decision by the majority of the members of Jamaat-e-Islami.

JI Central Information Secretary Qaisar Sharif said that over 45,000 members of the party cast their votes to elect the new emir in the recent intra-party elections.

“Naeem received over 80% of the votes and became the sixth emir of the party,” he added.

Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman would remain the party’s chief till 2029, the party’s information secretary added.

JI incumbent Emir Sirajul Haq is completing his second term as the party’s head on April 8 (Monday), he added.

The outgoing chief, Sirajul Haq, held the position of Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami since 2014, marking a decade-long tenure.

Hailing from Karachi, Hafiz Naeem, a civil engineer by profession, is the sixth elected chief of the Jammat e Islami Pakistan.
