Jahangir Tareen quits politics following his defeat in general elections

PTI backed independent candidate Malik Muhammad Aamir Dogar clinched victory against Jahangir Tareen in NA-149 Multan

On Monday, Jahangir Tareen, Patron Chief of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) announced to quit politics following his defeat in the Feb 8 general elections.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) backed independent candidate Malik Muhammad Aamir Dogar clinched victory against Jahangir Tareen in NA-149 Multan in the general election 2024.

Dogar, an independent candidate backed by PTI bagged 143613 votes over the IPP’s Jahangir Khan Tareen, who managed to get 50166 votes.

Tareen announced his decision in a post on X and thanked everyone for their support during the recent election and felicitated his opponents.

In a statement posted on X, Tareen said, “I would like to thank everyone who supported me in this election and want to offer my congratulations to my opponents. I have immense respect for the will of the people of Pakistan. Therefore, I have decided to resign from my position as Chairman IPP and step away from politics altogether.”
