Punjab’s coronavirus tally surges to 84,587 with 988 more cases
Punjab’s coronavirus tally has risen to 84,587 after it reported 988 new cases on Thursday, according to the government’s Covid-19 portal.
The province has also reported 26 additional fatalities, taking the death toll to 1,955. More than 51,000 people have recovered from the virus in the province, according to the portal.
Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid on Thursday said the number of coronavirus cases in the province significantly decreased after imposing ‘smart lockdowns’.

The health minister urged the public to take precautionary measures when celebrating Eidul Azha, warning that infections may increase once again, as they did after Eidul Fitr if citizens failed to follow SOPs for curbing the spread of the virus.
Furthermore, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar says the decision of smart lockdown taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan has yielded positive results in the fight against the COVID-19.
In a statement in Lahore on Thursday, he said the government is striving hard for the provision of relief to the people.
The Governor urged people to adopt preventive and precautionary measures against the coronavirus.
