Seven miners dead in Quetta coalmine blast

At least seven miners on Friday were dead and three injured in a blast took place at a coalmine 60 kilometres away from Quetta, the Balochistan chief mine inspector confirmed.

Shafqat Fayyaz, the chief mine inspector said that the blast explosion took place due to the presence of methane gas in a mine in Digari area.

According to the official, the dead bodies of the deceased miners had been recovered. Most of the miners hailed from Hazara community.

A majority of coal mines in Balochistan are notorious for their poor safety protocols.

According to government sources, at least 20,000 labourers are employed in 2,500 mines across Balochistan. Fatalities in the coal-mining sector in the country are commonplace, emphasizing the need for better labour protection.
