Sheikh Rashid sent to jail on 14-day judicial remand in Zardari remarks case

A district and sessions court in the federal capital has sent Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid on judicial remand for 14 days.

Sheikh Rashid was arrested on Thursday for allegedly making defamatory remarks against the PPP leadership and the Islamabad court granted police his two-day physical remand 

A district and sessions court in Islamabad pronouncing the verdict reserved earlier, Judicial Magistrate Umar Shabbir ordered to send Sheikh Rashid to Adiala Jail on judicial remand.

The court rejected the prosecutor’s request for a five-day extension in the physical remand.

 

Later, a court also rejected Karachi Police’s plea for a transition remand to take Sheikh Rashid to Karachi.

The former interior minister is facing serious charges as he levelled allegations against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari for plotting to assassinate Imran Khan.
