The government of Sindh on Saturday declared 20 districts of the province calamity hit areas.

The areas of Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad have been declared calamity-hit after five spells of heavy monsoon rains.

This year’s monsson has caused havoc in the province of Sindh claiming more than 80 lives and damaging public and private property.

According to the notification, the Sindh government in the “exercise of the powers vested under Section 3 of the Sindh National Calamities (Prevention & Relief) Act-1958” declared 20 districts as “Calamity Affected Areas” because the “heavy rainfalls during Monsoon season have caused [a] loss of human life and property” in the province.

Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab shared the official notification on Twitter, saying, “Sindh government has declared 20 districts of Sindh to be calamity affected under the Sindh Calamities Act of 1958.”
