Twitter blocks Pakistan govt’s account in India

Pakistan government’s official Twitter account can not be viewed in India!

The development comes on Thursday as Twitter has blocked the Pakistan government’s account from being viewed in India in response to a legal demand, according to a notice on the social media platform.

The company’s guidelines compel it to withhold entire accounts in response to a valid legal demand, such as a court order.

As per Twitter’s guidelines. the microblogging site takes such action in response to a valid legal demand, such as a court order.

This isn’t the first time. the Twitter handle of the Pakistan government was withheld in July 2022 but was reactivated.

The account was again withheld on Oct 1, 2022, in response to a legal demand.

Meanwhile, the handle, @GovtofPakistan, is available for viewing and interaction from other countries including the United States and Canada.

Furthermore, the company has also blocked the accounts of several high-profile Canadians — including NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and poet Rupi Kaur — from internet users in India.

As reported, 122 Twitter accounts were blocked in India, including prominent figures like @FriedrichPieter, @PunYaab, Canadian politician @theJagmeetSing, and the poet @rupikaur_, on request from the Indian government.

The blocked Canadian Twitter accounts appear to have spoken out against recent actions of the Indian government in their pursuit of Amritpal Singh.

The move comes as the Indian government hunts for Amritpal Singh in the Punjab state.

Earlier, the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had blocked more than 10 YouTube channels for spreading disinformation related to India’s national security, foreign relations and public order.
