Ali Tareen decides to continue with the name “Multan Sultan”

Newest entrant in the PSL ownership club, Ali Tareen has decided to continue using the name “Multan Sultan” for the 6th team. In a video message, son of Jahangir Khan Tareen, stated that the team will continue with last year’s name.

Schon Group, which bought the franchise in 2017, came up with the name Multan Sultan. However, they were unable to honour their financial commitments and after a bidding process, the team’s ownership rights were won by a consortium led by Ali Tareen.

After a social media campaign, two new potential names were selected, Multan Bahadurs and Multan Malangs. However, the team’s on ground campaign showed that majority of the Southern Punjab population prefers Multan Sultan.

“When we bought the team, we aimed that it should be representing the entire South Punjab. We asked lot of people to send their suggestions, initially Bahadurs and Malangs were the suggested title names for the team. I personally liked Bahadurs and wanted to have it but people of South Punjab wanted Sultans so we respected it,” said Ali Tareen in a tweeted video message. PCB will now transfer the license of the name to the new ownership group of the team.

In another tweet, GM Multan Sultans confirmed Johan Botha as the head coach of the team. While, Peshawar region coach Abdul Rehman and test cricket Nadeem Khan will be assistant coach and spin coach respectively. Last year, Tom Moody coached the team, but they failed to get out of the group stage.
