Mohammed Shami on target of online abusers after India’s loss to Pakistan
Mohammed Shami is on the target of online abuse after India’s loss to Pakistan.
The 31-year-old pacer became the object of the online trollers’ target after he failed to impress with his performance at last night’s key match against Pakistan.
Indian trolls accused Shami of ‘deliberate’ poor performance against Pakistan.
Though it was a bad day for Shami, who failed to pick up a wicket and conceded 43 runs in 3.5 overs.
And being an Indian Muslim he becomes an instant target of an Islamophobic attack!
Mohammad Shami is the only Muslim cricketer on the Indian Cricket Team playing in the ICC Men’s-XI Cricket World Cup.
Social media users in India abused the baller and Shami was repeatedly asked by the trolls how much he had sold himself for against Pakistan, and the exchange grew increasingly heated and shameful.
Indian journalist Abhishek Baxi took to Twitter pointing out how Sanghis have started abusing Md. Shami after the loss.

The social media feed showed a nasty image of how Indians respect their national player!
These are some of the comments on Mohammed Shami’s Instagram account. The hyper-nationalist Indian cricket fans have unleashed worst form of communal abuse on Shami for India’s loss against Pakistan. Not surprised at all because this is what India is famous for. #IndvsPak pic.twitter.com/KCsSzAr5y3

And fortunate there were some sane voices, who came out voicing their support for Shami.
Among them were former Indian pacer Irfan Pathan and other Indian cricketers.
In a tweet, Irfan wrote, “Even I was part of #IndvsPak battles on the field where we have lost but never been told to go to Pakistan. I’m talking about India of a few years back.”
He wrote in caps words, “THIS CRAP NEEDS TO STOP. Shami.”

Indian defeat by the hand of Pakistan yet again brought the shameful face of Islamophobic Indians.
Meanwhile, support for Shami is also pouring in on social media:
The islamophobic hate against #shami with aspersions on his patriotism and his commitment to the country. If this and the state enabled hatred against Indian minorities is not worth taking a knee, I don’t know what is @imVkohli @BCCI
