World Cup 2023: Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by 6 wickets in a one-sided match

Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by six wickets to open their ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 campaign with a resounding win after a one-sided match.

Afghanistan, after being sent into bat first by Shakib, started well, but collapsed from 83 for 1 to 156 all out to lose the match in the first half itself.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, opening for Afghanistan, was the top scorer with 47 runs.

Gurbaz also became the fastest Afghanistan to reach 1000 ODI runs. He got there in 27 innings, bettering Rahmat’s Afghanistan record by four innings.

While, Ibrahim Zadran contributed 22 runs, and Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi scored 18 runs each.

Azmatullah Omarzai was able to add only 22 runs to the total.

Bangladesh bowlers significantly contributed to the fall of the Afghan team.

Bangladesh’s captain, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mehidy Hasan claimed three wickets each, while Shoriful Islam took two wickets. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman took one wicket each to seal the victory for Bangladesh.

In response, Bangladesh successfully chased down the target of 157 runs in the 35th over while losing 4 wickets.

Bangladesh’s Najamul Hussain Shinto played unbeaten innings of 59 runs.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz bagged the Player-of-the-Match award!

It was Afghanistan’s 13th successive defeat at the World Cup, a streak stretching back all the way to 2015.
