George R.R. Martin reveals ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel title as Naomi Watts joins cast

The prequel “The Long Night”, setup in thousands of years before the events of GoT, will be getting into production in 2019


George RR Martin has revealed the title of the first Game of Thrones prequel series. The series will be called “The Long Night”. The shoot for this project is reported to start next year. The confirmation of the series name came as the writer reached out telling about the cast announcement made by HBO.

“Casting is now underway for THE LONG NIGHT, the first of the GAME OF THRONES successor series to ordered to film. HBO has just announced the first cast member: NAOMI WATTS is coming on board as one of our stars”, writes Geroge RR Martain.

Actress Naomi Watts has been roped in for the much anticipated prequel of Game of Thrones series. According to media reports Watts will be playing “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret” in the prequel. She is the first cast member to be announced for this upcoming series.

This is not going to be her first TV appearance She was recently cast as Gretchen Carlson in Showtime’s limited series about the late Fox News CEO and disgraced television executive, Roger Ailes. Her film roles include The Ring, Mulholland Drive and King Kong. She has been nominated for an Oscar for her roles in The Impossible and 21 Grams.

The prequel is being written by X-Men: First Class‘s Jane Goldman and supervised by GoT writer George R.R. Martin. As per reports, the story will be set in “thousands of years” before the events in the Game Of Thrones. The prequel will be based on the chronicle “the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour,” and provides a look at the secrets of the history of the warring families in the fictional kingdom of Westeros, the network announced earlier.
