France to Shut Down Schools as Coronavirus Grips the Country

In his latest address to the nation regarding the Coronavirus situation in the country, French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that educational institutions across the country will be shut down from next week. The president also urged the elderly, handicapped and those with chronic illnesses (asthma, bronchitis) to stay at home and observe precautions.

“Creches, schools and also universities would close from Monday until further notice,” said Macron.

The President added that albeit the scheduled local elections on Sunday will go on as planned, the country is at the beginning of a crisis that has to be desperately averted.

“We are just at the beginning of this crisis. In spite of all our efforts to break it, this virus is continuing to propagate and to accelerate,” he stated.

France has so far had 2,876 cases of Coronavirus in the country with the first one coming in from an individual who traveled to China. The pandemic has claimed 61 French lives thus calling in for quick measures.
