According to a report by Variety, the new Popeye the Sailor Man live-action outing “is currently in development as a big-budget feature.
The makers have tapped writer Michael Caleo, best known for Sexy Beast, The Family, and the iconic HBO series The Sopranos to pen the screenplay.
This will be the first attempt to bring a pop culture icon Popeye to the big screen since the 1980 film staring Robin Willians in the lead.
While details of the project are unknown, Variety reports the upcoming film is a collaboration between Chernin Entertainment and the owner of the Popeye IP, King Features.
