An elephant in Kenya has given birth to twins, the rarest event for the planet’s largest land mammals!
Conservation group Save the Elephants announced earlier on Friday that an elephant in Kenya has given birth to a rare set of twins.
The twin baby elephant calves – both female – were born to a mother elephant named Alto in Kenya’s Samburu National Reserve, said the Save the Elephants organization, welcoming this “double joy”.
In a video posted by Save the Elephants on its X-platform account, the twin elephants can be seen suckling their mother, in the presence of the other individuals of the herd.

Twin births account for only around 1% of elephant births.
However, the Samburu reserve has earlier witnessed the birth of two more twin elephants – a male and a female – in early 2022 and also in 2006.
Though Elephant twins don’t always make it. The twins born in Samburu reserve in 2006 survived only a few days after the birth.
