BLACKPINK Awarded Honorary MBEs by King Charles at the Buckingham Palace

Congratulations to Rosé, Jennie, Jisoo and Lisa!

BLACKPINK, the K-pop sensation girls group, has been awarded Honorary MBEs by King Charles at the Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.

The BLACKPINK girls are now honorary members of the Order of the British Empire!

As reported, BLACKPINK’s MBEs are in recognition of their role as official advocates for the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow.

However, as BLACKPINK’s Rosé holds dual New Zealand citizenship and is already a national of the British realm, her MBE is considered “substantive” rather than just honorary.

BLACKPINK was awarded the honour by King Charles in a special investiture in Buckingham Palace’s 1844 room on Nov 22.

The special investiture was also attended by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Kim Keon Hee, who are currently on a state visit to the United Kingdom.

A day earlier, King Charles hosted a lavish white-tie banquet for the South Korean president and first lady at Buckingham Palace, where all four members of BLACKPINK were also in attendance.

King Charles briefly mentioned the K-pop idols in his speech at the banquet, saying, “I applaud Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé—better known collectively as BLACKPINK—for their role in bringing the message of environmental sustainability to a global audience. I can only admire how they can prioritize these vital issues, as well as being global superstars.”
