Federal Cabinet approves Rs3.50 to Rs7.96 hike in power base tariff

Federal Secretary of Energy Rashid Mahmood Langrial stated that 55% of electricity consumers would not be affected by the increase.

Federal Cabinet on Saturday approved an Rs3.50 to Rs7.96 hike in power base tariff per unit against the national average tariff determination of Rs4.96 by the power regulator.

According to the news source, the approval was given by the cabinet via circulation summary.

An official request in this regard has been submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to increase the tariff and the regulator will hold a public hearing to decide the matter before a final notification.

The hike will come into effect from July 1 after formal notification by the Nepra following a public hearing.

Consumer Increase
Using up to 100 units Rs3
Those using 101-200 units Rs5
Those using 201-300 units Rs5
Those using 301-400 units Rs6.5
Those using 401-700 units Rs7.5
