LPG price increased by over Rs20 per kg for October

The revised pricing structure came into effect today (October 1, 2023).

The federal government has approved a Rs20.86 per kilogram increase in liquid petroleum Gas (LPG) prices for both domestic and commercial consumers for the month of October 2023.

The new prices came into effect today (October 1, 2023).

This makes the third straight month when the government has increased LPG prices significantly.

According to The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) statement, the cost of LPG per kilogram would increase to Rs261 in October from Rs240 in September 2023.

OGRA has attributed this consistent escalation in the LPG prices to two key factors:

  1. The devaluation of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar
  2. An increase in the prices of Propane and Butane, the principal components of LPG, by Saudi Aramco.

The development comes right after the caretaker government announced a decrease in the prices of petrol and diesel for the next fortnight for the first time in two-and-a-half months.

The petrol price was reduced by Rs8 per liter while a cut of Rs11 was announced in the diesel price.

Following the reduction, petrol will be available at Rs323.38 and diesel at Rs318.18 per liter.
