PML-N’s Malik Ahmed elected as the new Punjab Assembly speaker
Malik Ahmed Khan gets 224 votes to become new Punjab Assembly speaker
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Malik Ahmed Khan was elected as the new Punjab Assembly speaker on Saturday.
The election was held between Khan and Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) Ahmed Khan, who managed to secure 96 votes.
As many as 327 MPAs cast their votes through secret balloting in the Punjab Assembly’s session.
PML-N’s Malik Ahmed secured 224 votes to become the speaker of the Assembly.
Meanwhile, SIC’s Ahmed Khan managed to secure 96 votes.
Following his election, Malik Khan took the oath of his new post, marking the commencement of his responsibilities as the Punjab Assembly Speaker.

Earlier in the session, six MPAs, including Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Shafay Hussain and Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) Hafiz Farhat Abbas and Waseem Khan Badozai, and independent candidates Rai Murtaza Iqbal Khan, Fateh Khaliq, Tashakul Abbas Warraich, who were not present in the House’s inaugural session on Friday, took their oaths.
