Tax return filing deadline extended
FBR in view of the demand of trade bodies and various tax bar associations has extended the tax return filing deadline
The tax return filing deadline has been extended till 31st October 2023!
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Saturday evening, contrary to its previous statement, provided a one-month extension in the filing of income tax return forms.
“In view of the demand of trade bodies and various tax bar associations, it has been decided that the date of filing of income tax return for Tax Year 2023 is extended to *31st October 2023*. However, no further extension for filing of said return shall be granted.

In a statement, FBR said that for the first quarter of the current financial year, it collected Rs. 2,041 billion (2022: 1644 billion) against the assigned target of Rs. 1,978 billion thus exceeding the target by Rs. 63 billion.
FBR has also put in exceptional efforts to achieve revenue target for Sept, 2023. As against a target of Rs.794 billion,FBR was able to collect Rs.834 billion (2022: 688 billion),while refunds amounting to Rs.37 billion were issued compared to Rs.18 billion issued in Sept,22. 2/4

On Thursday, the FBR officially announced no extension in the last date for filing income tax returns beyond September 30, 2023.
According to the sources, a substantial increase of 15 percent in the number of return filers till September 28 when compared with the same period of last September 28, 2022.
The number of return filers was expected to further increase during the last two days of return filing i.e. Sep 29 and 30th.
