Australia register first win at World Cup by beating Sri Lanka by 5 wickets

Australia registered its first win at the World Cup 2023 by beating Sri Lanka by 5 wickets on Monday!

Chasing a small total of 210, Australia was in deep trouble as David Warner (11) and Steve Smith (0) were back in the dressing room without making any useful contributions.

However, Mitchell Marsh (51), wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis (58), Marnus Labuschagne (40), Glenn Maxwell (31 not out), and Marnus Stoinis (20 not out) steered Australia to victory.

The five-time champs achieved the target in 35.2 overs at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium.

While batting first, Sri Lanka’s collapse from 125-0 to 209 all out was one of the most dramatic turnarounds of the tournament so far.

Australia’s Adam Zampa was named man of the match for leading the rout on figures of 4-47.
