Babar Azam likely to be reappointed as T20 captain
Babar Azam is likely to be reappointed as T20 captain, it emerges on Friday.
According to the news source, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to reappoint Babar Azam as T20 captain on the recommendation of the newly formed selection committee.
The source also claimed that Babar Azam will participate in the Kakul training camp as captain and will assume the charge during the upcoming five-match T20 series against New Zealand.
Babar stepped down as the skipper of the national side from all formats, in November last year, following the national team’s humiliating World Cup campaign.
Babar Azam was previously appointed white-ball captain in 2019 and Test skipper in 2020.
Some serious doubts over Shaheen Shah Afridi’s ability to lead the Men in Green at the showpiece T20I event later this year were raised after 23-year-old left-arm quick lead Lahore Qalandars’ appalling performance in the Pakistan Super League season 9 (PSL 9).
His team finish at the bottom of the points standings, winning just one game all season.
