Don 3 is happening but without Shah Rukh Khan

Farhan Akhtar is set to reboot the Don Franchise with a new leading hero

Don 3 is finally happening but without Shah Rukh Khan!

Indian media reports that Producer Ritesh Sidhwani has confirmed the third installment of the action thriller Don.

Reportedly, it is currently in the scripting stage under the direction of Farhan Akhtar.

Sidhwani, who partners with Akhtar at production house Excel Entertainment, added that he is not privy to any plot details at the moment.

The first film in the Don franchise was based on Amitabh Bachchan’s 1978 original but it had its own twist at the end, followed by the second part, which came out in 2011, and after over a decade, Farhan and Ritesh are once again bringing the third installment of the film.

However, the new installment won’t feature Shah Rukh Khan.

An insider source claims that Farhan Akhtar and others were planning to bring three generations of Don together, based on Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and an upcoming actor who would take up the baton.

However, SRK was least impressed with this idea and hence bowed out.

The Source said, “But SRK felt the idea of spinning Don’s universe would be gimmicky and hence advised the team about his exit.”

And now the question is who could be seen stepping in the shoes of Shah Rukh Khan?

The source claims that “The talks at the moment are on with a hero who has done two films with Excel in the last decade. He is keen to step into the shoes of Don but has his reservations, too, as the legacy of the franchise and the actors who portrayed Don before can’t be replicated by anyone. Don will be rebooted once one of the younger actors takes up the challenge.”

What are your thoughts on Shah Rukh Khan’s exiting Don 3?
