Veteran singer Dr Amjad Pervaiz passes away

Amjad Pervaiz’s funeral prayer was offered at Main Boulevard Mosque in Shadman, Lahore on Monday

Veteran singer Dr Amjad Pervaiz passed away in Lahore.

As reported, Amjad Pervaiz, known for many hit songs, passed away on Sunday, March 3, after suffering kidney failure at the age of 79.

Amjad Pervaiz’s funeral prayer was offered at Main Boulevard Mosque in Shadman, Lahore after Zuhar. 

According to his family, he had been suffering from a kidney ailment for quite some time and was getting treatment at a private hospital.

Amjad was an engineer by profession holding a PhD. degree received proper singing training from seasoned teachers, including Ustad Salamat Ali and others.

He started singing on Radio Pakistan Lahore station as a child artiste in 1954. 

Many would not know that Amjad Pervaiz had joined a pop band The AayJays in the 1970s that used to perform at the PTV.

Amjad Pervaiz’s famous songs included Tera Lutya Shehr Bhambhor and Jo Bhi Kutch Hai Mohabbat Ka Phailao Hai.

He also authored eight books on music including Melody Makers of Subcontinent, Symphony of Reflections, and Rainbow of Reflections. The latter two published books were a collection of his columns written in newspapers including The Nation and Daily Times.

Amjad Pervaiz was awarded Pride of Performance in 2000.

Punjab Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed her deep sense of sorrow over the death of a renowned singer Amjad Pervaiz.

CM Punjab extended her heartfelt sympathy and grief to the family members of the late Amjad Pervaiz.

She also prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.

Maryam Nawaz remarked that the services of the late Amjad Pervaiz in the art of music will be remembered for a long.
