Sajal Aly starrer ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It?’ bags nine nominations at UK’s National Film Awards

The awards ceremony will be held on July 3

Sajal Aly starrer ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It?’ has bagged nine nominations at UK’s National Film Awards!

The British romantic comedy Directed by Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and written and co-produced by Jemima Khan, features an ensemble cast including Lily James, Shahzad Latif, Emma Thompson, Shabana Azmi, Asim Chaudhry, Mim Shaikh, Jeff Mirza, Iman Boujelouah, Mariam Haque and Sidhu Vee.

The film also featured music maestro Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in a guest appearance.

The film has received nods for — Best British Film, best director for Kapur, the best actress for Lily James. best-supporting Actor for Asim Chaudhry, best supporting actress for Thompson, best independent film, best screenplay for Jemima Khan, best comedy, and best producer (Nicky Kentish Barnes, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Jemima Khan).

The awards ceremony for the 9th edition of the National Film Awards is being organized by the UK’s National Film Academy and will be held on July 3 at Porchester Hall.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on 10 September 2022, and, at the Rome Film Fest the following month. It won Best Comedy (the Ugo Tognazzi award).

It was released in the United Kingdom on 24 February 2023 by StudioCanal.

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur took to social media to break the news to the fans and congratulated the team.

He wrote, “Congratulations to the What’s Love Got To Do With It? team for scoring 9 nominations at The British National Film Awards!”
