Prague mass- shooting: At least 15 people killed by a student at Charles University

The bloodbath took place at the Charles University Arts faculty, which is located on Jan Palach Square in central Prague.

At least 15 people were killed in a mass shooting at a university in Prague on Thursday.

According to the local police and the city’s rescue service, a lone gunman opened fire Thursday in a university building in downtown Prague, killing at least 15 people and injuring more than 20 people.

The incident is reported to be the worst mass shooting in the Czech Republic’s history.

The gunman has been identified as a 24-year-old student at the varsity, whose name has not been disclosed.

The bloodshed took place in the philosophy department building of Charles University, where the shooter was a student, Prague Police Chief Martin Vondrasek said.

Following the incident, Czech Interior Minister Vit Rakusan said investigators do not suspect a link to any extremist ideology or groups.

 

Social media was soon flooded with video clips showing scenes from the site of the incident.
