He was brought to the court on a chair on Wednesday.
The court had ordered the jail authorities to conduct Jaffer’s medical checkup on Jan 15.
An application by Jaffer’s counsel to form a medical board for their client’s mental assessment was rejected earlier this month.
The order, issued on January 6, stated that the plea was filed when the trial was nearing its end and the matter had not been raised before the court earlier.
“Facts and attending circumstances reveal that the accused is not suffering from mental illness [and] such afterthought plea has been raised just to get rid of criminal liability,” the order read.
On Thursday, the defence counsel cross-questions the investigation officer.
The court adjourned the hearing till January 24.
